For decades people have relaxed and meditated to soothing sounds, including recordings of waves lapping, desktop waterfalls, and wind chimes. Lately, a new kind of sound therapy, often called sound healing or sound bath, has begun to attract a following. Also known as vibrational medicine, the practice employs the vibrations of the human voice as well as instruments that resonate to go beyond relaxation and stimulate healing.  These instruments are designed to resonate at certain frequencies and notes that can affect the body in a positive way. Sound Healing  It’s an ancient therapy

While many people are only just discovering it, sound healing is actually a return to ancient cultural practices that used chants and instruments to restore health and relieve pain. Healing with sound dates back to most ancient cultures Greece when music was used in an attempt to cure mental disorders, Temple gongs ringing out to remind the villagers to be mindful, Singing bowls bringing a void into the mind to allow enlightenment to enter, Australian Aborigines with the didgeridoo or the American Indian with a drum – clearing the physical body and awakening the great spirit if you look closely every ancient culture will have some form of sound healing.

The power of sounds, sound therapy works

Sound therapy works on a vibrational level. Although we hear the sound with our ears the vibrations are felt with our whole body resonating in every single cell.  There are different types of sound therapy, all use special sounds that produce vibrations thought to improve brain waves giving a feeling of well-being

Acupuncture has a short term effect. The period of time you will feel its therapeutic benefits is around 3-4 days. If you are having it only and your problem isn’t chronic, you can have it once a week.

. This is how sound therapy can have such a profound effect on us. What sound healers have in common is a belief in the potency of sound to not only promote relaxation but relieve ailments, from common aches and pains to anxiety, depression, and PTSD.

How does Sound Therapy work

Sound healing uses different aspects of sound to improve your emotional and physical well-being. How it works depends on the method of sound healing therapy being used. A session may involve sitting or lying down either individually or in a group while listening to sounds produced from a range of instruments.  At Narture we can use Singing Bowls, Gongs, Drums, Chimes, Clapsticks, and Bells during a sound bath.  No 2 sessions will ever be the same as each session is attuned to the participants.
