What is acupuncture

Acupuncture is a part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and is being practised for over 2000 years. The basis of Acupuncture is to bring the body into balance by restoring the flow of Qi. Qi (pronounced as “Chee” and also spelt as Chi or Ki) is vital energy that flows through channels known as meridians. If the flow of Qi in the meridians is disrupted, then disease may follow.

Acupuncture points

There are 14 major meridians with over 500 acupuncture points. By inserting fine needles into particular acupuncture points, the disruption can be corrected and the flow of Qi restored.

History

The Acupuncturist takes a detailed history and use traditional tongue and pulse diagnosis to assess your condition according to TCM. Then a prescription of acupuncture points specific to the individual will be used. Acupuncture points are usually stimulated using needles, but other methods such as moxa (heat), magnets, acupressure, laser and cupping can be used. All needles used are pre-sterilized disposables. The initial consultation will take around an hour with follow up consultations being 30 – 40 minutes, for most conditions treatment is 6 – 8 sessions.

Research

Acupuncture can be used for acute and chronic conditions but you do not need to be unwell to gain benefits as acupuncture is also used for wellness, relaxation and maintenance. Research has found that acupuncture may be effective in treating a range of disorders including digestive, emotional, general, gynaecological, musculo skeletal, neurological, respiratory and vascular.

Acupuncture and its benefits

Acupuncture is a holistic health technique derived from traditional Chinese medicine practices in which trained practitioners stimulate specific points on the body by inserting thin needles into the skin. Remarkably, although acupuncture uses needles, treatments are relatively pain-free. Indeed, one of the most popular uses of acupuncture is to naturally reduce chronic pain throughout much of the body without the use of drugs that can cause unwanted side effects.

Benefits of Acupuncture

Presently, acupuncture is used to treat conditions like muscle spasms and pain, chronic back problems and pain, headaches, neck pain, osteoarthritis, knee pain, digestive problems & depression.

Is Acupuncture Safe?

Acupuncture that is usually considered safe when done using sterile needles by an experienced, well-trained practitioner. However, it is vital to always go to a practitioner who is well trained in acupuncture as well as to a facility that is quite cautious in using acupuncture needles. If Acupuncture is not properly performed with clean needles it can pose a great risk.

This is a widespread condition today, this is often caused by working in a static position, driving long distances, and also working in such places as warehouses. So whatever you do for a living, perhaps you are dock worker at the port in Fremantle, an office worker in Fremantle or a warehouse worker in Bibra Lake we can help you find relief.

3) Neck pain

This is often caused by the same conditions that cause back pain.

4) Hip pain

usually caused by lack of exercise or physical work.

5) Anxiety and depression

can also be treated with acupuncture.

6) Smoking

Many people have used acupuncture as an aid to stop smoking.

Women use acupuncture to help with fertility issues.

Food craving can also be improved by using acupuncture and acupuncture can be used as a helpful additional treatment when dealing with weight loss.
